6th Form College, Farnborough

Project Details

Client: Farnborough 6th Form College
Architect: BSG Architects
Value: £1.3 million

Completion :  May 2018

Summary

The project comprised the extension and conversion to the original DT building to create a new state of the art auditorium.  The extension was constructed over reinforced foundations and we installed a new plant room slab around a steel frame structure.  The building was complete with low-level brickwork, curtain walling, aluminum external louvres and steel deck roofing.  Internally, we installed a new Audience Seating system with full mechanical and electrical services including audiovisual systems, lighting, fire alarms, acoustics and door entry system.

The works were undertaken over a period of 26 weeks with some parts carried out during term time and whilst the College remained fully operational.

The main access and surrounding roads were all residential and during the installation of the mains services a brief road closure was required.  This was carefully planned into the programme to occur outside of term time when access to the College was less busy.  All local residents were kept fully informed with regular newsletters containing timeframes and contact details.

Throughout the whole project, the logistics of materials delivery and waste removal was carefully planned with the utmost consideration given to local residents and users of the college to minimise inconvenience and prevent excessive noise and dust.
